Kumlong Sporting Association to host 2nd Inter-Ward Volleyball Tournament
MOKOKCHUNG—, July 7 (EMN): The Kumlong Sporting Association (KSA) is set to host the second Inter-Ward Volleyball Tournament 2023 on the theme ‘Forging Champions’ at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Mokokchung.
The Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA) is supporting the tournament, which will be held from August 9 to the 11th.
During a press briefing held on last July 6, Dr. Imlinichet Imchen, convenor of the organising committee, announced that cash prizes for the champions and runners-up are INR 30,000 and INR 20,000, respectively.
Additionally, individual awards will be given for best setter, best spiker and player of the tournament. The champion team will also earn free entry to the Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy, one of the most coveted volleyball tournaments in the state.
An exciting addition this year is the introduction of the ‘Super Spiker’ event, where individual players from participating teams can compete without any entry fee. The winner of the event will walk away with a cash prize of INR 2000.
The Kumlong Sporting Association (KSA) was established in 2016 under the Kumlong Ward Yimden (Council) to oversee sports activities. The association’s primary objective is to promote and support young, aspiring athletes.
Since its inception, the KSA has actively participated and competed in various sports events within Mokokchung district, striving to provide a platform for young talents, the organisers said during the presser.
It may be recalled that Sungkomen Ward lifted the first Mokokchung Inter-Ward Volleyball Tournament last year.
Apart from the exciting volleyball matches, the tournament promises a vibrant atmosphere with food stalls and various entertainment events to keep spectators engaged throughout the event. The matches will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis, adding to the suspense and competitiveness.
To participate, teams must register by submitting the necessary forms along with registration fee of INR 1500 per team. The technical team also stipulated that participants representing each ward must have been residents of the respective ward for a minimum of one year to be eligible for the tournament.
