KUM welcomes NSCN (Ang Mai) decision for peace talks

DIMAPUR — Konyak Union Myanmar (KUM) has appreciated the decision taken by NSCN/GPRN led by Maj. Gen. (retired) Ang Mai to initiate formal peace talks with both Indian and Myanmar governments as openly published on May 23.

The eastern Konyak people have appreciated the wisdom of NSCN/GPRN  led by its president, Maj. Gen. (retired) Ang Mai; vice president, Nyeiton; and general secretary, Kughalu Mulatuno, for heeding to the call of the people and to safeguard the Naga national cause through peaceful negotiation.

The eastern Konyak public urged the Naga national workers to cease all forms of violent activities, torture, kidnapping, threats and factional clashes in the entire Konyak area particular the eastern Naga soil.

It stated that peace should include unity and development activities to benefit public as well as Naga leaders for lasting solution. It added that Naga sovereign should not be sold out for only peace, which is the birthright of all the Naga as a whole.

A KUM press release issued by its president, PM Aman, and general secretary, K Akham Honwang, has called for peace with India, Myanmar and within the Naga national leaders.

It was of the opinion that peace talks for piece meal solution would only complicate situation and create more confusion and division among the Nagas.

The release stated that after a consultative meeting with KU Mon on August 9, a team of officials including KUM president, PM Aman; general secretary, K Akham Honwang; advisor SA Khotai; and president of Konyak Students’ Union (Myanmar), Chen Oh, undertook a consultative peace mission to the entire eastern Konyak jurisdictions from August 10 to the 15th.

During the mission, the team has appealed to all Naga national workers/ leaders to maintain peace and unity basing on the slogan “Nagaland for Christ.”

KUM also expressed gratitude to all the Naga national workers for accepting the appeal of the public to cease violent activities within the Naga political groups. It added that all the Naga national leaders stationed in eastern Konyak jurisdiction have assured for peaceful and co-existence and ready to forgive each other.
