Dimapur, Aug. 4 (EMN): The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) undertook an ‘Education Wheel Tour (Inspection) Phase-1’ and visited 10 sub-ordinates head quarters.

KSU, in a press release, stated that some defaulters found during the inspection were summoned by the union for explanation and undertakings were voluntarily signed in presence of concerned VEC/SMC chairmen and students’ union presidents to report to the respective posting place with effect from the first week of August.

Accusing the School Education department as equally responsible in paralysing the schools and producing poor results every year, KU alleged that during verification the union found that most of the teachers (CSS Hindi and SSA Samagraha) within the district were yet to receive their salaries for more than three months.

The union questioned the department as to how the unpaid teachers would be motivated to produce the best in students.

It also expressed indignation that most of the schools in Mon district are understaffed and demanded that the staffing pattern as issued by the concerned authority vide Notification No:- DSE/STAFF- PATTERN/2014 be implemented at the earliest for the smooth functioning of the schools.

It stated that Mon district needs 311 primary teachers in 141 GPS, 103 graduate teachers in 62 middle schools and 80 teachers in 18 government high schools as per the staffing pattern. While most of the GMSs lack subject teachers, 15 high schools under Mon district are functioning without head master and assistant head master, KSU stated.

Maintaining that the head of institutions the vision of quality education remains merely on paper, KSU also claimed that many private teachers are recruited on the expenses of students’ bodies due to concern over the career of the students.

The union further expressed displeasure over the appointment of teachers as BLOs which, it stated, is another factor undermining quality education and demanded de-attachment of teachers as BLOs and to appoint the adequate teachers.

Besides, some of the villages namely Yeangmei, Tangkhao, Tammong, Longchang Hongnyu which were officially recognised are yet to get government Schools, the union stated and questioned why the government is neglecting the fundamental rights of the  citizens, it stated.

Alleging that since inception of statehood till date, people of Mon are deprived in every field, the union demanded immediate establishment of 4 new GPSs in the four mentioned villages.

On the same note, the union appealed to all the government teachers to be present at their respective posting place and cautioned that in case non-compliance, the union will forward the defaulters name for disciplinary action.

KU further directed its federating units and VECs to work pro-actively for the welfare of the Konyak community, especially in the field of education, it added.
