KSC wins Manoranjan football tourney

Imphal, Jan. 29 (EMN): Kuki Sporting Club (KSC), Kangpokpi on Saturday clinched the 12th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial State Open Football Tournament 2022 trophy.

KSC Kangpokpi defeated Classic Football Academy by 1-0 in the final match played at the Sport Authority of India, football turf ground at Takyel in the outskirts of Imphal.

The month-long tournament which started from January 8 was organised by 143 Bn CRPF and Imphal West Football Association under All Manipur Football Association.

A total of 24 teams from across the state participated in the tournament.

Earlier, speaking at the closing function, Paotinmang Doungel, DGP, Manipur, said that organising such tournaments to honour and commemorate the brave hero is commendable.

“The sacrifice made by Shaheed Manoranjan for the motherland will remain in the hearts of the people forever. It is also a matter of pride for the state to have organized such events by encouraging sport talents of the state”, he added. 

The closing function was attended by IGP (CRPF), Manish Kumar Aggrawal, DIGP Ravindra Singh Rautela and officers from CRPF and Manipur Police, mother of Shaheed Manoranjan Singh, Ng (O) Memcha Devi, family members and others.

It may be mentioned that Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial State Open Football Tournament has been organised since 2010 to honour the brave son of the soil, Shaheed Ng. Manoranjan Singh and to keep his memory alive.

He was awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry (Posthumously) after he sacrificed his life during an operation against Maoists as an asst. commandant at Singhanmadgu village, Dantewada district, Chhattisgarh in 2009.
