DIPHU — The President of the Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), Jemson Timung faction, has voiced concerns over the alleged misuse of government funds designated for renovation works at Diphu Government College.

During a press conference at the ASDC conference hall on Wednesday, Ramsing Tokbi, the General Secretary of KSA, claimed significant discrepancies against the sanctioned amount of INR 1,81,67,857 allocated for various renovation projects at the college.

Tokbi said that the KSA conducted a survey on the renovation works at Diphu Government College and found the execution to be of substandard quality.

He highlighted that the amount of money allocated for these works did not align with their quality, suggesting an excessive overpricing indicative of fund misappropriation. The contractor involved was identified as Phumen Teron.

He mentioned that in response to these findings, KSA submitted a memorandum to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), addressed to the Principal Secretary, on November 20, 2023. Despite this, he said, there has been no response from the KAAC authorities.

Further, Tokbi emphasised KSA’s commitment to advocating for the student community’s interests.

He declared their intention to thoroughly investigate the issue and to take legal action against the involved parties, including the contractor Phumen Teron, secretary in charge of the department of Higher Education, Nirola Phangchopi, and officials from the Education department and the PWD Karbi Anglong Territorial Building Division.
