An intending candidate from BJP was removed from the Konyak Union executive Council (UEC) on Wednesday for speaking “unapologetically and irresponsibly” against the resolution of KU to abstain from participating in any electoral process until Frontier Nagaland is attained.

The order issued by KU said that the statement of Konnngam Konyak of Longwa village was “found to be against the ethos and constitutional mandate of Konyak Union as given in Article 21, clause (a) & (b) of the constitution.”

The order was signed by the president of KU, Tingthok Konyak and General Secretary, Manpang K Wangyen.

“On the above-mentioned ground, Konyak Union hereby remove Konngam Konyak from Union Executive Council (UEC) membership with immediate effect”, it stated.

“The resignation letter tendered by the concerned person from the UEC member on ‘moral ground’ on Jan. 25, 2023 has been summarily rejected officially and this removal has been moved by the Union, “ it added.

It may be mentioned that Konngam Konyak was present during the press conference held on January 23, at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, demanding 30-30 seat-sharing between BJP and NDPP for the upcoming Assembly election. He had stated that he was an intending candidate and would be filing nomination for the election.

Explanation call letter to the president of BJP, Mon

An ‘explanation call’ notice was also issued to the president of BJP, Mon by the Konyak Union on Wednesday, undersigned by Vice president HA Hongnao Konyak and General Secretary Manpang K Wangyen, stating that some party members were protesting at the BJP office in Mon.

“The Konyak Union is in receipt of some viral videos and pictures of your party members protesting at the BJP Office, Mon,” the notice stated.

“Whereas, the Konyak Union had earlier issued notification order for the second time on January 13, 2023 banning all political activities within Mon district that henceforth necessary actions shall be initiated against the defaulters by the KU until the demand of Frontier Nagaland is granted by the GOI befittingly; and whereas, it has been found that your party has willfully defied the order.”

“Therefore, you and your secretary are asked to appear at the KU office on January 26, 2023 at 11:00 am without fail. Failing to comply with this call shall invite severe action against you”, it stated.

ENPO meeting

The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) held a meeting on Wednesday, at Konyak Morung in Dimapur.

However, it was a closed-door meeting and the members refused to speak to the media.

It may be mentioned that the ENPO emergency Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting, which was scheduled for January 24 in Tuensang district to discuss the current pressing issues, had been postponed to January 25 citing “unavoidable circumstances”.

It called for an emergency joint consultative meeting with the seven tribal bodies, Eastern Naga Students’ Federation, Eastern Naga Women’s Organisation and the talk team in Dimapur on Wednesday.

The president along with a member each from the seven tribal bodies and other frontal organisations had been asked to attend the meeting. The ENPO team, who were in Delhi to meet the central leaders, had reportedly returned to Nagaland on Sunday (Jan. 22).
