Kohima’s Community First Responders training concludes

Trainees and officials of the training program for Community First Responders for disaster management which was conducted by the District Disaster Management Authority of Kohima from June 27 to the 30th.

Dimapur, June 30 (EMN): The ‘training of trainers’ program for Community First Responders for disaster management which was conducted by the District Disaster Management Authority of Kohima from June 27 to the 30th has culminated.
The programme was organised in collaboration with the Civil Defence & Home Guards, Health and family welfare and Fire and Emergency Services, a press release from the organisers informed on Friday.
The event culminated with Kohima Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Soundararajan attending as the ‘special guest.’ He exhorted the trainees saying that in any kinds of disaster, it is the community who first respond to it, therefore, it has become a necessity to train the local masses. He congratulated the trainers who will be venturing out to their respective villages and sub divisions to train people with their learnt knowledge and skills.
Rajesh Soundararajan expressed his happiness on seeing many youths taking up the initiative to become community first responders. He stated that this training of trainers training is just the beginning and that they should not end by this training. He further said tackling with disasters is crucial and needed a collective effort from all sections of society especially from the NGOs. He further, thanked the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for exhibiting their selfless and sacrificial services as and when required.
The deputy commissioner gave away the certificates to the trainees who completed the four days intensive training and a token of gift to the best presentation group. In the group competition, the Chiechama village under ADC Chiephobozou sub-division won the emerged first.
DDMO of Kohima, Thejangulie Zao while expressing the final remarks of the training elaborated on the way forward that the trainers will be engaged very soon for further trainings of the sub divisions in the entire Kohima District.
He said the whole idea of the training is to train, equip oneself so as to train others. He expressed gratitude to all the trainees for showcasing their eagerness to learn and having come forward positively and making the training a meaningful one.
The training was supported by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Home department, Government of Nagaland. The valedictory programme was chaired by Victor Yhome, DPA of Kohima.
Altogether forty trainees from the five sub divisions of Kohima district have been trained.
