Kohima Super Cup: G-Sports FC, NMFC through to semi-final

Kohima, May 26 (EMN): G-Sports FC topped the tightly contested Pool-A by drawing a lot after their match against New Market FC (NMFC) ended in a 1-1 draw on Thursday during the ongoing Kohima Super Cup at Indira Gandhi Stadium.

Limakumzuk Ao of NMFC opened the score in the 10th minute and despite multiple attempts from both sides, no team could score further in the first half. Match officials were put in a tight spot and the spectators watched in excitement as the match grew intense minute-by-minute.

60 minutes into the game, Yhunshalo Kemp of G-Sports FC scored the equaliser, ending the match in a draw.

With wins to their credit in all matches, both G-Sports FC and New Market FC secured their semi-final berths.

Since both the teams ended up with seven points each on the table and an equal goal difference (GD) of +11 each, a lot was drawn, which went in favour of G-Sports FC. The first timer to participate in the Kohima Super Cup, G-Sports FC was ultimately declared the winner of Pool-A.

The other two teams in Pool-A — Hurricane Boys Phesama and Sechu FC Academy — were knocked out from the cup with a closed 3 points and zero points each and a GD of -4 and -18 respectively.

Though Hurricane Boys Phesama had won 2-0 against Sechu FC Academy, it was not enough to get them through to the semi-final.

For Hurricane Boys Phesama, Neikehiezo Kuotsu and Sisi Chuse scored a goal each in the 40th and 55th minute.

A lot of expectations are in store for Friday’s matches as four strong teams from Pool-B, with three points each, compete for the two spots in the semi-final.
