DIMAPUR — The members of Kohima Press Club (KPC) conducted a clean-up exercise at KPC’s newly allotted plot adjacent to the Made in Nagaland store in Kohima on Saturday.
According to a press release, 24 members participated in the clean-up exercise.
Speaking on the occasion, the president of Alice Yhoshü extended appreciation to all the members for their presence and contribution in clearing up the site while also soliciting their continuous support in the future as well.
It may be mentioned that following the approval of the allotment of the said plot to KPC by the State Land Acquisition Authority (SLAA), Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announced on February 27 during his 2024–25 post-budget press conference that the state government would construct a press club building at the allotted site within one year.
The KPC’s old office at the Old Secretariat was burned down during the mob violence in a 2017 ULB protests. Since then, the Press Club has been functioning without a permanent office space.
Yhoshü said the chief minister’s assurance to construct a permanent press club building is a reflection that the government of the day acknowledges the pivotal and indispensable role of the fourth estate in a democracy.
She said that the club looks forward to the commitment of the state government to making the new building a vibrant media centre in the state capital with facilities to even cater to visiting journalists from other districts and states.
