Kohima Open Volleyball Tournament: SSC clinch double victories

KOHIMA — Senapati Sporting Club (SSC) emerged as the undisputed champions in both the men’s and women’s categories of the 10th Kohima District Open Volleyball Tournament held at IG Stadium, on Thursday evening.

In a commendable display of skill and teamwork during the finals, SSC men’s and women’s teams claimed victories, each earning cash prize of INR 80,000, respectively.

The runners-up in the men’s category, Japfüphiki Sporting Club (JSC), were awarded INR 50,000, while MADPA Club Dimapur, the women’s volleyball runners-up, also received INR 50,000.

The men’s losing semifinalist teams Sumi United Dimapur and Kiruphema Youth Organisation – A, along with the losing women’s semifinalists Charmers Club Kohima and Peren Volleyball Club, were also awarded INR 15,000 each.

K Deepak and MD Sakil of SCC clinched the titles of best spiker and best setter, respectively, in the men’s category.

In the women’s individual categories, Atsoi and Prathana from MADPA Club, Dimapur, were adjudged best setter and best spiker, respectively.

P Shyan Prou of SSC was adjudged the best coach in the men’s category, while Muyolhou Ringa of Phek District Volleyball Association, also claimed the same accolade in the men’s division.

Both coaches were handed over certificates.

Prasielie Pienyü, chairman of Nagaland Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd., was the guest of honour in the closing ceremony.
