Kohima, May 15 (EMN): In order to encourage students of Government High Schools, Kohima District Planning & Development Board (DPDB), on Monday, felicitated students, who secured the highest aggregate marks in the yearly High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations from amongst the Government High Schools in Kohima district.
Zebulun Pamai of Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, was felicitated for securing the highest marks totally 473 in the recently conducted HSLC examinations. Kohima DPDB has felicitated Zebulun Pamai at DPDB conference hall, Kohima.
The chief guest Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu, MLA from 11 Northern Angami II A/C, handed over a citation and cash award of Rs 10, 000 to the young topper on behalf of the DPDB, Kohima.
Observing that Nagas only study for securing degrees, Keditsu stressed upon the need for career orientation other than securing mere degrees. “It shouldn’t be degree oriented but a career oriented,” Keditsu said.
While lamenting that Indian education are syllabus oriented, whereas American system caters to the need of the students, Keditsu emphasised on the latter in order to bridge the gap.
“Once we have that mindset to be a responsible person who can earn a livelihood, it would solve a lot of problems especially in unemployment,” Keditsu said.
He also announced to sponsor seven students of any streams under Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School this year on behalf of DPDB.
Lauding the initiative of DPDB, he said this would encourage the students to work harder. “Students are the key and backbone of the society; they are the future of the society,” Keditsu said.
RGHSS headmaster Kepelhoutuo Chüsi, in his short speech, said government schools accept any students whoever comes for admission, while it is not the same in private schools. He mentioned that seven of his students were felicitated over the past years by DPDB.
