Kohima District Chess Championship 2015 ends today

KOHIMA, AUGUST 6

The 1st Kohima District Chess Championship 2015, under the aegis of Nagaland Chess Association, commenced on Wednesday at Angami Public Organisation (APO) Hall, Kohima.
A total of 24 players, including six Elo international rated players, are participating in the two-day tournament which is being conducted in Swiss League System of nine rounds.
The winner of the tournament will be awarded Rs. 10,000, while the second, third and fourth position winners will be given Rs. 7,000, Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 3,000 respectively, along with trophies and citations. All the prize money, trophies and certificates have been sponsored by Khriehu Liezietsu, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports, State Lotteries and Music Task Force, who also graced the inaugural function as the chief guest.
In his address, Liezietsu urged the players to wisely choose their sports discipline. Stating that some disciplines do not suit the Nagas physically, he emphasized the need for Nagas to choose disciplines which we can compete at the top level of competition. To this, he said that Chess is one such game where Nagas can also excel at the top, provided we strive with commitment and determination.He also advised the gathering to give their best in whatever thing they do. “In any profession you decide to pursue as your career, give your best. You won’t be able to reach the top without total effort and commitment,” he stated.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Visanyüzo Kuotsu, president, Kohima District chess Association, while the invocation was pronounced by Kehoulelie Zatsu, travelling pastor Christian Revival Church. A special number was presented by Neiphretuonuo Sechü.
The players leading the championship are Visanyiizo Kuotsu (6), Visedelhou Terhiija (4.5), Neikehiezo (4.5), Ruopfiivilie Nagi (4), Thepfiichalie (4) and Kevilekho. The closing function would be graced by Rovilato Mor, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima tomorrow at 5 PM.
