Kohima DC requests citizens to adopt carpooling

Dimapur, Aug. 29 (EMN): Observing the exponential increase in usage of private vehicles in the state capital, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima Shanavas C has requested citizens of Kohima to adopt and practice the system of carpooling to not only decrease traffic congestion but also reduce air pollution.

The DC stated that if carpooling is practiced diligently by all while commuting from home to school and to work place, it will not only reduce the acute traffic congestion by decreasing the number of vehicles on the road but also reduce greenhouse gas emissions, thus reducing the carbon footprint, an update from DPRO Kohima stated.

It said that district administration had observed that due to increased traffic congestion, there was not only an increase in air pollution, leading to health hazards, but loss of productivity as well.

“Therefore, considering that the shared mobility (carpool) is a tried and tested method the district administration, Kohima has appealed to all the citizens/residents of Kohima town to adopt the aforementioned practice and participate in making Kohima a cleaner and a greener city,” it read.
