Kohima DC inspects deteriorating roads, designates tasks
DIMAPUR — The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, conducted an inspection of the deteriorating roads in Kohima on Thursday.
The DC was accompanied by the additional SP Kohima; revenue officer, Kohima; executive engineer, Urban; executive engineer, Nagaland Public Works Department (NPWD)-National Highways (NH); executive engineer, NPWD (Road and Bridges); and other officials, according to a DIPR report.
In a separate press release issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, it was informed that following the inspection, a meeting was convened in the office chamber of the DC Kohima. During the meeting, work was assigned to address the deteriorating road conditions in Kohima.
NPWD (NH) was tasked with clearing clogged drains and providing water channels for surface water runoff in the landslip areas at Dzuchie, Dzudza (GREF Temple), and Kezanu, Jotsoma (Old KMC dumping site). Their responsibilities also include clearing debris, restoring sunken road areas, and installing safety measures and signage.
NPWD (R&B) will carry out road repair and maintenance work on Jotsoma-bypass Road and Peducha-10th Mile Road. These two routes will be used as alternate routes in the event of highway road blockages due to natural disasters.
The Urban Development Department will carry out the concreting of potholes at Box Cutting from August 10 to 11.
The traffic police will ensure that all heavy commercial vehicles (HMVs) are parked in a single lane on one side of the Kohima-Dimapur 4-lane road (NH-29) during the traffic closure period for HMVs in the town area. During the concrete filling of potholes at Box Cutting road, vehicular traffic will be regulated to facilitate the road repair work.
The DC instructed the engineers of NPWD (NH), R&B, and Urban Development to ensure that all road potholes in their respective jurisdictions are filled and resurfaced for a smooth and safe ride. An action-taken report should be furnished thereafter.
Further, he requested that the traffic police streamline the parking of HMVs on NH-29 (Kohima-Dimapur) to ease congestion in landslide and landslip areas during the monsoon season.
Public advised to exercise caution
Meanwhile, an advisory issued by the DC office informed that a landslip/landslide on NH-29 (Kohima-Dimapur), caused by incessant rain, has affected vehicular traffic along the highway.
It mentioned that the NH road at Dzuchie, Dzudza (GREF Temple) and Kezanu, Jotsoma (Old KMC dumping site) is worst affected. Removal of debris and road repair work is underway.
The public has been advised to exercise caution while travelling through this route until the completion of the road restoration work.
