Dimapur, Aug. 10 (EMN): Kohima College commemorated its 55th foundation day-cum-World Indigenous People’s Day at the college premises on August 9 on the theme “Fostering the culture of excellence.”
An update from the college stated that Zeneinuo Solo, head of Political Science department and also the daughter of one of the founding members of the college, Vibeilie Solo, took the KCK family down the memory lane by sharing a brief history on the establishment of Kohima College. She stated that Kohima College was established in the year 1967 as the first private Arts College in Kohima by founding members namely Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire, Dr. Satuo Sekhose, Vibeilie Solo and Vilalhoulie Belho, who shared a common concern to fulfill the aspiration of the upcoming generation.
She informed that the college was under private management for 38 years. Subsequently in February 2006, the college was taken over by the government of Nagaland. She added that many students of the college bagged university ranks in various subjects.
She stated that the college celebrated its 50 years of existence in 2017 and in the same year successfully completed the second cycle of NAAC assessment. She went on to state that the college had hosted the first inter-government college Olympic, organised by Higher Education department, government of Nagaland, in 2019.
She said the college has produced 8000 graduates and 1200 honours graduates over the years. She further expressed gratitude to everyone involved in organising the programme as it was the first time in the college’s history to celebrate the college’s foundation day.
The invocation was pronounced by Seyievituo Suohu, college alumnus and pastor of Flames of Fire Baptist Church, followed with a song president by students of the college, while cultural items were presented by the Angami, Konyak and Rengma students.
On the occasion, Nokpai Konyak of 5th semester was awarded for winning the short film competition on the theme ‘Kohima College: The Journey.’
Hyulo Tsela, KCSC general secretary, delivered the vote of thanks and Dr. Theyiesinuo Keditsu, assistant professor of English, chaired the programme.
