Kohima, March 9 (EMN): Second-time legislator from Bhandari constituency in Wokha district Mmhonlumo Kikon has been sworn in as protem speaker of the newly elected 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Friday. Kikon was elected on the Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.
Governor PB Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Kikon at a brief swearing-in function in the presence of officiating Chief Secretary Temjen Toy and NLA Secretary Benjamin Newmai in Kohima.
Following the appointment of the protem speaker, the governor has summoned the first session of the 13th NLA on March 13 at 9.30 am. Kikon will preside over the proceedings of the assembly till the time a speaker is elected by the newly constituted house.
The list of business to be taken up on the first day of the assembly session include oath and affirmation by the elected representatives, election of speaker, and proving of majority by the new leader of the house.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Secretariat has informed in a press release that Governor Acharya has fixed March 13 as the date of election of a new speaker by members of the assembly. In this regard, filing of nomination papers for the speaker’s post will be open on March 12 till 12 pm, while nomination can be withdrawn between 1 pm and 4 pm the same day.
