Dimapur, Aug. 1 (EMN): Kigwema Students’ Union (KSU) conducted sanitation-cum-plantation drive on July 30, which also marked the kickoff campaign of its 75th anniversary celebration scheduled in 2023. The programme was organised under the guidance and patronage of MLA Medo Yhokha, advisor of Technical Education and Election and DPDB chairman of Kohima.

An update from the union informed that a short programme was conducted prior to the plantation drive, where Zhavi Kere, pastor of Kigwema Baptist Church, pronounced the invocation.

Speaking at the programme, Yhokha exhorted the students and elders to have clear vision and inculcate a sense of responsibility and accountability for the future generations. Stating that the opportunities and privileges which they are enjoying today were a gift from God, he advised to uphold responsibilities and do their best for the future generation.

“This plantation drive is a good start for the present generation to be healthy, clean and to progress. Let this sanitation cum plantation drive not become a publicity gimmick or a basis to avail schemes,” Yhokha stated.

Stating that planting a tree in itself is incomplete, he said the ultimate goal should be to ensure how many of the saplings planted today matured and bore fruit and benefit the generation to come.

“A tree planted today will not give the benefit to you but it is the future generation who will reap its benefits. Similarly, this initiative which is being undertaken today in preparation for the 75 years celebration must be sustained for posterity,” he added. He later planted the first sapling.

It stated about 100 Rhododendron saplings were planted in and around the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) jubilee monolith. It further mentioned that the AYO jubilee monolith was erected during the presidency of the advisor, Medo Yhokha.
