Khelo India boxing centre inaugurated in Wokha

DIMAPUR — Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (MLA) and chairman of Wokha district planning and development board (DPDB), YM Humtsoe, on Thursday inaugurated the Khelo India boxing centre at Police Reserve in Wokha town.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Humtsoe lauded the state government and the department of Youth Resource and Sports for adopting the Regimental School in Wokha to set up the Khelo India centre in the discipline of boxing. He expressed confidence that enthusiast youth from all over the district would be nurtured and groomed in the discipline of boxing.

He has further assured all possible assistance from the government to upgrade the centre and make it as a centre of repute.

While highlighting on the project, the superintendent of police, Wokha, Aotula T Imchen, informed that an MOU was signed between the Police department and the department of Youth Resource and Sports for a period of four years to identify young talents.

Stating that the Khelo India centre has the potentials of becoming a centre of excellence, she urged the youngsters to avail the opportunity and make serious use of the facilities. She further expressed hope that the youth would be able to excel and bring laurels to the district at the state, national and international levels through the centre.

Meanwhile, the superintendent of police, Wokha, thanked the DIG for the support in providing the infrastructure and allowing to establish the Khelo India boxing centre at Police Reserve (DEF), Wokha. She further informed that the centre would be opened for everyone including students in the district.

It mentioned that under KIC (boxing), a permanent coach has been appointed to identify and train young talents, who would latter represent the state as well as national level in the discipline of boxing.

Currently, 14 girls and 18 boys are enrolled as trainees to undergo training from different schools under Wokha district.

The programme was chaired by DYRO of Wokha, K Libemo Jami, while the vote of thanks was delivered by SDPO of Wokha, Sangthing Khiam.
