KDCA gets new office after 50 years

KOHIMA — After more than 50 years of its formation, the Kohima District Cricket Association (KDCA) on Thursday got its new office at Serüzou Colony, Naga Hospital Road, Kohima, which was inaugurated by the president of Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA), Kechangulie Rio.

Formed in 1972, the KDCA got its new office for the first time on Thursday.

Congratulating the association on the inauguration of its new office, the NCA president said that it marked a significant milestone for cricket in the district and expressed hope the facility would play a crucial role in channelising cricket-related activities in Kohima.

He expressed confidence that the new facility would help in bringing cricket-loving community closer to the game and foster better connection between the association and cricket enthusiasts. He commended the association for their active effort to uplift cricket game in the district and expressed confidence that the new office would further amplify their dedications to the game.

“There is ample potential in Kohima for the development of cricket with its diverse population and hidden talents and this is evident with the increase in players representing the state in both the men and women teams, as well as support staff who are now BCCI certified coaches in different levels, S&C coach and even manual scorers,” Rio said.

He opined that Nagas are slowly realising the significance of cricket not only as a sport but also as a promising career opportunity and urged the district association to play a crucial role in facilitating the same.

While seeking support from KDCA in the NCA’s endeavour in promoting cricket as a career, he said that NCA has made concerted efforts to support its associations. He also informed that there are six practice pitches in the Kohima district at the moment and added that they are looking forward to establishing more pitches in the future.

Rio added that the NCA also planned to establish mini indoor facility and conduct more camps and programmes for both players and support staff.

Assuring KDCA of NCA’s support in the promotion of cricket game, he urged the district association to come forward with ideas so as to help the state association achieve its goals of making Nagaland a power house for cricket.

The NCA secretary, Hyunilo Khing, also congratulated KDCA for the new milestone achievement and expressed happiness that the new office could be finally inaugurated after many years. He further suggested them to scout local talents by involving themselves in churches.

Meanwhile, the KDCA president, Menguvilie Sakhrie, pointed out that there are a lot of cricket enthusiasts in Kohima and raised the need for more cricket nests in Kohima.

The KDCA general secretary, Keneilhouzo Sekhose, in his report, informed that the association has four active coaches including 1 for level-1 and 3 for level- 0.

He informed that several clinics and four tournaments were also held besides conducting six open trails to select team to represent Kohima. He further informed that 15 Kohima players were selected to play for the Nagaland state team in various tournament organised by BCCI.
