DIMAPUR — Kohima Bar Association (KBA) organised its 2nd lecture on “Art of drafting: emphasis on suits and writs” on July 28 at DPDB conference hall in Kohima.
The lecture was delivered by TB Jamir, advocate and former senior additional advocate general of Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench.
The programme was part of its lecture series with an objective to guide the upcoming advocates by touching upon various aspects of the law.
An update from KBA stated that the lecture dwelt on the importance to be precise, simple and thorough in drafting pleadings, which form the foundation for deciding a case. It also dwelt on the differences in pleadings occurring in suits and writs, and how it was important not to muddle up the two.
The lecture also emphasised on the importance of thoroughly discerning the facts, issues and the laws involved in a case before an advocate begins to draft his/her case.

It also impressed upon the advocates the need to constantly hone their writing skills and to specifically avoid grammatical errors while drafting pleadings.
It stated that the importance of presenting full and correct facts was also highlighted by underscoring that a court should never be misled through non-disclosure or improper disclosure of facts by the clients and that it was the duty of advocates to ascertain all facts from his/her client as much as possible.
The lecture concluded with a reminder that one could attain proficiency in drafting pleadings only through consistent practice.
