Diphu, Nov.14 (EMN): The Karbi Students Association (KSA) of the Inglongpho faction has condemned the damaging of a foundation stone for the construction of Forest IB at Sabuda under the Chinthong Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency in West Karbi Anglong, which is very close to the inter-state boundary with Meghalaya, on the night of November 12.
It may be mentioned that the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang during his visit to Umrukhuti for the Amur Falcon festival on November 12 had laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Forest guest house. On the same night, some unknown miscreants damaged the stone.
In a press conference held here at the KSA Central Executive Committee office at Rongthe-ang on Monday, the president, KSA, Thangsing Timung said the “incident is very unfortunate” and condemned the action.
“CEM Tuliram Ronghang has planned for development of the inter-state boundary in West Karbi Anglong and has laid the foundation stone for construction of Forest guest house. It is very unfortunate as such things are happening on the inter-state border,” he said.
The KSA president also said that the inter-state issue is a Central government subject and both the governments of Meghalaya and Assam cannot do anything without the interference of the Central government. The people on both sides should respect each other’s boundaries.
Timung also stated that the boundary of Karbi Anglong district was demarcated through a government notification in 1951. Block –I and –II is not a disputed area as it is well inside Karbi Anglong, he said.
