Karbi Anglong to mark National Voters’ Day with various activities

Diphu, Dec. 27 (EMN):  In the run-up to National Voters’ Day (NVD) celebration on January 25, 2022, election officer Kabyashree Dihingia briefed media persons on the preparation for the celebrations in Karbi Anglong.

In a press conference held at the conference hall of the DC office on Monday, Dihingia said the country is going to celebrate the National Voters’ Day (NVD) on January 25, 2022 to spread awareness and encourage more young voters in the political process in the country. In the run-up to it, various activities have been planned by the Election Commission of India in all respective revenue districts.

Dihingia said that ‘Xojang Voters Competition’ in all 34 revenue districts in Assam will be conducted. The competition includes — football, dance and singing competition. Football competition in district-levels will be conducted between Dec. 27, 2021 to Jan. 4, 2022. The winning teams in district-levels will compete in zonal-levels — Barak Valley, Central Assam, Kamrup Metropolitan, Lower Assam, North Assam, Upper Assam and Bodoland Territorial region.

‘We will be part of the Central Assam Zone including – Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Nagaon, Morigaon and Hojai. The competition will be held at Nagaon. The winning team will participate at the state-level from Jan. 7 to the 22nd. The cash prizes and trophies for the winning teams will be distributed Jan. 25, 2022.   State-level winning team will receive a trophy and cash prize of INR 30,000 and runners-up will also receive a trophy and cash prize of INR 20,000. At zonal-level and district-level winning teams will also receive both trophies and cash prizes’, she informed.

Singing and dancing competition will have two categories – class 9 to class 12 and from degree and above.

In singing competition the first-level will be held in respective schools, colleges and universities and the videos of the winners has to be sent to block-level. At block-level the screening committee will select the videos sent to them and there will be physical competition for both dance and singing competition. The video should be three minutes.

The election officer also informed that the nodal officer at the block-level will open a WhatsApp group and school authorities can get the WhatsApp no. for uploading the videos. The competition will be judged by a block-level screening committee.

Officials from district sports officers and district cultural officers have been entrusted with the task. As per directive from Election Commission of India, an Electoral Literacy Club (ELCs) and Voter Awareness Forums (VAF) will be set-up in schools and colleges and campus ambassadors will be appointed in colleges and universities, the election officer added.
