Karbi Anglong Sports Association elects new officer bearers

DIPHU — The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang retained the post of the president of Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA), while Dr. Pankaj Teron also retained the post of general secretary for the next five-year term.

The KASA constitution was an amendment which was earlier approved by the executive body. The present four-year term has been increased to a five-year term, according to the new amendment. The term of the new executive body will be from 2023 to 2028. 

Except for the post of Athletics and Archery secretaries, the candidates for other posts were elected uncontested in a general meeting held at the conference hall of Arboretum cum Craft Centre, Matipung on Saturday.

Ronghang in his speech thanked all the sub-associations for their support in promoting sports in the district. He urged the KASA, West Karbi Anglong Sports Association and sub-associations to have better coordination in promoting sports in the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.

The election was conducted by Secretary, in-charge Sports and Youth Welfare Department, KAAC, Rajeshan Terang, as returning officer; District Sports Officer, Rilip Ronghang as assistant returning officer. Joint Secretary of the Assam Olympic Association, Hiren Gogoi was an observer.

The new officer bearers are Gautom Terang as senior vice president; vice presidents Longsing Tokbi, Jibon Ch Pathak, Ritesh Enghi, Madhuram Lekthe, Rah Kro and Surjya Rongphar; honorary general secretary, Dr. Pankja Teron; joint secretaries Richard Tokbi, Bishnuram Nunisa and Borsing Kro; assistant secretaries Phirosh Swargiary, Philip Teron, Pradip Ronghang, Dr. Jacquiline Teronpi and Rajbu Teron; treasurer Kensing Engti and office secretary Jirsong Engleng.

13 persons were appointed as executive members in the executive body.

Sectional secretaries include Khorsing Terang as adventure sports secretary; badminton secretary Kensing Engti; basketball secretary Moniram Gogoi; boxing secretary Tongkeswar Khaklary; cricket secretary Snajay Timung; football secretary Horen Engti; gymnasium secretary Edward Rongchaicho; handball secretary Ruhit Difusa; Hockey secretary Kalyan Rabha; Kabaddi secretary Labendra Basumatary; Kho-kho secretary Sarat Pator; Martial arts secretary Purna Timung; Swimming secretary Helen Enghipi; Table tennis secretary Babu Singnar; Volleyball secretary Meghnath Basumatary; Wrestling secretary Narayan Basumatary; Archery secretary Kurusar Timung and Athletics secretary Rajen Rongpi; Board of referee, umpires and judge chairman Sudhangsu R Dey; vice chairman Arup Kalita; secretary Sunil Engjai and assistant secretary Manik Bey.
