Karbi Anglong, Manipur celebrate Kut Festival

Imphal, Nov. 1 (EMN): The post-harvest festival of Kuki-Chin-Mizo communitY was celebrated with traditional fervour, gaiety and cultural shows at various parts of Manipur on Wednesday.
Along with the celebrations in various locations, the state level festival was held at the Parade Ground of the Manipur Rifles in Imphal with the state Governor Dr Najma Heptulla as the chief guest in the morning session while the Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh as the chief guest for the evening session.
Addressing the gathering the day’s morning session, Governor Dr Heptulla observed that Manipur is a mini India and a home to various ethnic groups with all these ethnic groups having their democratic rights.
“Culture is beyond the religion, so we should continue to celebrate such festival to bring for the welfare of the society,” she expressed.
Though we belong to many religion and worship any God, whichever way our remembrance and creator is, we are all united in one thing, that we are all Indian
Dr. Heptulla also congratulated the people of the State for unity amongst the people despite diversity. She expressed her gratitude to the artists for not just performing the cultural dances but also going back into history where their ancestors lived a harsh life in the forest. She also stated that the people of the State should continue sharing their belongings as their ancestors did with the entire village.
In her massage, she also prayed for the festival to bring peace, unity and prosperity to the State.
On the other hand in his message Chief Minister Biren also prayed for the festival to strengthen the bond between the various communities of the State and for the festival to bring prosperity and harmony to the State.
Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh,Works Minister Th Biswajit, MAHUD Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar, Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution Minister Karam Shyam and Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen who also attended in the evening celebration and others also conveyed warm greetings to the people, especially the Kuki-Chin-Mizo community on the occasion of Kut festival.
In the evening, beauty pageant-Miss Kut contest was also held with active participation of 18 beauties belonging to different ethnic communities in the state which is home to 37 communities.

Diphu, Nov. 1(EMN): The Kuki Community of Karbi Anglong celebrated the 36th District Level Chavang Kut festival held at Chavangkut hall, Kuki National Assembly, Manja on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1st. The festival was organised under the banner of Chavang Kut commiitte.
Chavang Kut festival is one of the most joyous festivals of the Kuki-Chin-Mizo tribes which is celebrated every year in Karbi Anglong on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
Chavang Kut ‘Chavang’ meaning ‘autumn’ and ‘Kut’ meaning ‘feast/festival’ is a post harvest festival of the Kuki tribe. The festival is being celebrated every year to thank Chung Pathen (God) for the blessings.
Biren Sing Engti, Member of Parliament who attended the second day of festival as Chief guest, expressed India as a country with ‘unity in diversity’ as it is a country where various tribes from different region are living together in unity despite varying in traditions and customs.
He also applauded the Kuki community for preserving their own and tradition and culture while advising that one should hold up the identity in days to come. Engti also said that, in order to bring peaceful co-existance in the region, one needs to co-operate with everyone.
During the program brotherhood cultural exchange program was also organised by the Kut Committee wherein different cultural troupes displayed their traditional dances including Jollen cultural troupe, Diphu DPC colony and Karbi cultural troupe from Rongplimplam also presented their traditional dance.
Bidyasing Engleng, Ex-MLA, Pradip Singnar, Ashok Teron Ex-EM, KAAC and other dignitaries attended in the program.
