Diphu, Aug. 3 (EMN): As part of the recently launched education awareness campaign for quality education, the Executive Member (EM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Richard Tokbi started his surprise schools visit from Wednesday, to take stock of the ground realities of schools in Karbi Anglong.

He visited four schools in Diphu town under Lumbajong Education Block.

Tokbi first visited DAV Higher Secondary School, which has one of highest enrolment in government schools. Tokbi went through the teacher’s attendance register, the student’s enrollment figure, attendance of students and enquired about the problems of the school.

During the course of interaction with teachers, it was found that the mid day meal was not fed to students, instead the rice meant for mid-meals were distributed to students.

According to sources from Sarbha Siksha Abhijan (SSA), for the LP section, the government is providing 100 gram per meal per student and for Upper Primary 1.50 gram rice per meal per student. The government is also giving INR 5 as for cooking costs like purchase of firewood/LPG gas for cooking, vegetable, edible oil, spices, etc.

The EM told the teaching staff that mid-meal rice is meant to be cooked and to be fed to the children and not for distribution. It is not proper to distribute the mid-day rice to children. It is going against the government norms.

The EM also inspected the unused constructed additional classrooms. The SSA in 2015-16 has provided 7 additional classrooms for the school but surprisingly, the classrooms have already been damaged. Principal Chandrasing Senar said because of no proper full boundary walls, miscreants stole school properties after entering the rooms through windows.

Repairing has been initiated while in the higher secondary section there is a need for teachers in Political Science, History and Economics.

The school has 111 students with 24 teaching staff.

The EM also found out that most of the students of the school are domestic helpers.

Tokbi also visited the DAV LP School, which is separate from the high school section. The teachers were informed about the lack of response by guardians when invited to attend parents’ meetings. They also requested the EM to repair the school building.

At Rongnihang, the EM visited the English and Assamese medium lower primary section and the ME and high section. In class-I, English medium LP section students were seated on the cemented floor while in class III five students were sharing a bench.

The EM also visited Govt. Girls Higher School and Govt. Boys HS School and interacted with the teachers and students. In these two schools the EM saw the school atmosphere and sincerity of the teachers. He asked the teachers to help the students in getting better performance in the next matric result.

The EM urged all teachers to extend full cooperation in achieving quality education in the next three years of Mission 2025.
