KAAC election: Results to be declared today

Diphu, June 11 (EMN): The fate of 154 candidates, who contested in the 13th Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) election, comprising the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, will be declared today (Sunday).

The counting will be held in – Diphu Government Boys HS School; Government Girls High School, Diphu; Bokajan Higher Secondary School and Govt. Higher Secondary School, Hamren.

At Diphu Government Boys HS School and Government Girls High School, counting will be held for 10 MAC constituencies of — Lumbajong, Dhansiri, Singhason, Langfer, Phuloni, Langhin, Karkhanti, Mahamaya, Nomati and Howraghat — , while in Hamren Govt. Higher Secondary School, counting will be held for nine MAC constituencies — Chinthong, Amri, Duar Amla, Rongkhang, Bithung Rengthama, Hamren, Kopili, Amreng and Socheng — and at Bokajan Higher Secondary School, counting will be held for seven MAC constituencies – Bokajan, Borjan, Surupathar, Deopani, Nilip, Duarbagori and Socheng Dhenta.

Lumbajong will have 14 rounds counting, while the remaining 10 MAC constituencies will have 10 rounds of counting.

The district administration has put up strict supervision for the counting process and only designated persons like counting personnel, counting agents of the respective candidates, media personnel, medical team and law and order personnel will be allowed to enter inside the counting centre.

In order to thwart off any untoward incidents during the counting process and post counting, the district administration has promulgated 144 CrPC in the general area of Diphu Government Boys HS School and Government Girls High School, Diphu, Bokajan Higher Secondary School, for protection of public life and property.

KA declares dry day streak from June 11

The district administration of Karbi Anglong (KA) has declared dry days commencing from 3 pm of June 11 onwards until further notice in order to avoid any law and order situation in the district and for smooth, free and fair conduct of KAAC election.

Further, the notification ‘prohibits the possession of any intoxicants by any person or group of persons and a total ban on sale of liquors in Karbi Anglong district’.

During the period, the restrictions provided in the excise law on the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises shall be vigorously enforced, the notification concluded.
