JJM: Six best-performing districts of Nagaland receive awards

DIMAPUR — Six best-performing districts from Nagaland received awards under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) on Monday at Iwu-Shi Garden, Nagarjan, Dimapur, during the state-level felicitation programme in commemoration of Swachhata Hi Seva 2023.

Wokha received two awards: the highest percentage of Har Ghar Jal villages reported as of September 2023 and the award for handing over Har Ghar Jal certified schemes to village WATSAN committees as of September 2023–24.

Mon also received two awards, one for total FHTC (functional household tap connection) coverage for 2023–24 and the other for women trained for FTK (field test kit) testing.

Tuensang was recognised for having the highest percentage of Har Ghar Jal villages certified as of September 2023, while Kohima rural (Tseminyu district) was recognised for having the highest percentage of FHTC coverage for 2023–24.

Mokokchung was recognised for reporting the highest percentage of FTK and lab water testing, and Dimapur rural (Niuland district) was recognised for handing over the Har Ghar Jal certified scheme to village WATSAN committees as of September 2023–24.

The best-performing villages under Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (SBMG) in various districts included Kuda village (Dimapur), Kiyeto village (Chümoukedima), Ghokito village (Niuland), Tethuya village (Kiphire), Tesophenyu New Viage (Tseminyu), Kohima village (Kohima), Yachem village (Longleng), Yaongyimti New village (Mokokchung), Longting village (Mon), Khulazu Bawe village (Phek), Chungtor village (Tuensang), Dan village (Noklak), Waphr village (Shamator), Yanpha village (Wokha), Shevishe village (Zunheboto), and Nsong village (Peren).

Speaking during the programme, Jacob Zhimomi, minister of PHED and Cooperation, said that the mission has become a national movement to impart civic sense to the people of the country and added that, as a developed society, people have to be responsible.

He said that good railways, shopping malls, and airports are all part of development, but practising sanitation and maintaining a clean environment is also a part of development, and that healthy hygiene, safe practices, and living in an environmentally friendly manner are all parameters of a developed society.

He also lauded the administrations of Chümoukedima, Dimapur, and Niuland districts for their roles in the Swachhata Hi Seva celebration.

As we know, India is progressing, and Nagaland should not fall behind in aspects of development, he asserted.

Delivering the keynote address, Gwatilo Tep, superintending engineer, Dimapur circle, highlighted the objectives of the mission and also the activities taken up by the government.

He encouraged people to work together to make a clean rural Nagaland in order to achieve the vision of a clean Nagaland.
