Dimapur, Aug. 15 (EMN): The Janata Dal United (JD-U) Nagaland has stated that it will launch a democratic agitation from today, August 16, demanding the state government to expedite the Urban Local Body (ULB) election before the end of the year.
The JD(U), in a statement on Monday, accused the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) government of trying to delay the elections despite the directive from the Supreme Court of India.
“Since Assembly election is due by February 2023, it is very exigent that elections to ULB must be held within this year,” read the statement.
It went on to claim that since the government is “unmoved”, the JD(U) decided to start a democratic process of agitation to demand the conduct of the ULB at the earliest. For the first phase, the party will start with a poster campaign, it stated.
It further appealed to the citizens of the state to cooperate and urge the UDA government “to heed to the voice of the people whom they represent”.
