JD (U) releases its 28 point manifesto for Manipur polls

Imphal,Feb. 11 (EMN): After opposition Congress and National People’s Party (NPP) released their manifestos for the upcoming 2-phase assembly elections in the state, the Janata Dal (United) also released its 28-point manifesto, which includes scrapping of AFSPA, enactment of a ‘Constitutional Safeguard’ for Manipur and protection of its territorial integrity on Thursday.

Afaque Ahmad Khan, national general secretary of JD (U), Anil Hegdre, national coordinator and state unit president Hangkhanpao Taithul were present during the manifesto releasing function.

The manifesto of the party also promised to do everything in its power to exert pressure upon the centre for expediting the process of talks with the concerned stakeholders for an amicable, honourable and early solution related to insurgency in the state.

It further stated that the party would address the issues of low capital formation, inadequate infrastructural facilities, compensation for geographical isolation, communication bottlenecks and industrialisation.

Some other points highlighted in the manifesto are skill development, transparency and good governance, empowerment of women, autonomous district council election etc.

It also promised to take up necessary steps in order to transform Manipur into a food surplus state from a food dependent state. Rural development, preservation and promotion of arts and culture and sports and fishery also figure in the manifesto.

It may be noted that JD (U) is fielding a total of 39 candidates in the ensuing 2-phase polls on February 28 and March 5.

The NPP was the first political party to release its 13 point action document 2022 on January 23, while the congress party’s 37 point policy statement was released on February 4.

The Nationalist Congress Party, which is currently fielding eight candidates including two women candidates, had also released its 15 point manifesto.

The ruling BJP is yet to release its manifesto for the elections.
