DIPHU — ‘Jalshala,’ a two-day block level programme for school students on awareness of safe drinking water, was organised at Rongklirdap Public Water Supply Scheme (PWSS), Taralangso, on Tuesday.
The programme was attended by students of Rengbonghom Higher Secondary School. ‘Jalshala’ is a programme under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
During the programme, the students were taken to the PWSS site at Taralangso for practical knowledge on how water is pumped from submersible pump to storage tank and to distribution points.
Technical Consultant and Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), PHE, Diphu Rural Water Supply Division, Sandeep Paul, said students are now aware about safe drinking water.
The AEE said after completion of the water supply scheme under JJM, the scheme is handed over to the Water Reserve Committee. The Committee will maintain and run the scheme. A small amount can be collected from the villagers for the expense of minor problems of the scheme. Community contribution is also very much essential for running of the scheme, he said.
