Inter-tribal youth fellowship held to promote oneness
MOKOKCHUNG — Inter-Tribal Youth Fellowship, a congregation of various communities living in Mokokchung, organised a common fellowship programme, which was hosted by the Yimyu Baptist Church Youth Ministry, on August 20.
The event held on the theme ‘Embracing Oneness,’ with an aim to foster unity among Naga Christian youths, witnessed the attendance of over 700 youths along with their respective youth pastors from 19 churches and fellowships.
The atmosphere at the event was charged with enthusiasm as Toshi Sanglir, youth secretary of ABAM, delivered a thought-provoking message.
Sanglir drew attention to the recent incidents in Manipur, where the Christian identity has become intertwined with various groups, yet marred by fear and conflict.
He posed a challenge to the gathering, asking them to reflect on their own Christian identity, values and actions based on God’s word from the Bible.
Expressing deep concern that such destructive patterns may potentially impact Nagaland’s Christian identity, Sanglir urged the congregation to move away from self-centeredness and tribal divides.
He opined that focusing on tribal identity at the expense of a larger Christian identity could lead to a vicious cycle of destruction.
By recalling the history of Nagas embracing Christianity, he underscored the importance of unity and embracing oneness.
He went on to illustrate his point with the Swahili term “Umoja,” signifying unity and togetherness, which he warned would fade away if Naga Christians did not come together as a cohesive whole.
He further cautioned against the habit of putting blame on others and urged the congregation to look inward and work towards embracing each other, echoing the teachings of Christ.
Dr. Neizo Puro, Assistant Professor at Nagaland University, exhorted the importance of humility before God and casting anxieties upon Him.
He stressed the significance of making decisions that shape one’s life and society and the transformative power of seeking God.
Moa Jamir, APY, Yimyu Baptist Church, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude for the celebration of unity in Christ amongst all tribes.
He said that the event is aimed to strengthen relationships and cultivate a sense of oneness among the attendees. The commitment to love and friendship through Christ amongst the tribes was also highlighted.
The event showcased a kaleidoscope of cultural performances, including folk fusion by Tzüsapang BCYM, quartet by Tenyimia Church YM, play by Police BCYM Mokokchung, musical piece by Kumlong BCYM, drama by Alempang BCYM, dance by Chang BCYM, group song by Lotha BCYM, transformative merriment by Mokokchung Compound BCYM, gospel cultural dance by Gorkha BCYM and dance by Marepkong BCYM.
