INR 5,190 lakh received for creation of capital assets—Rio

DIMAPUR — An amount of INR 5,190 lakh grants-in-aid has been received by Nagaland state under the proviso to Article 275 (1) of the Constitution for creation of capital assets (non-recovery) for the period 2023-24.

This was informed by Chief Minister and in charge Finance, Neiphiu Rio, in a written reply to an unstarred question by leader of NPF Legislature Party, Kuzholuzo Neinu, on the first day of the fifth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in Kohima on Tuesday.

To another unstarred question by Neinu, Rio stated that the Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme (CMLIS) was framed and announced during the budget speech for 2024-25.

Rio also provided details on the eligibility and criteria of the scheme as well as coverage under the scheme.

On the insurance companies that have been shortlisted to roll out the scheme, he replied that Tata AIG GIC Ltd, designated as lead general insurer for the state of Nagaland by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India, is providing the coverage under this scheme.

The leader of NPF Legislature Party also raised unstarred questions related to the Environment, Forest and Climate Change (EFCC) and Agriculture departments.  

Minister of EFCC and Village Guards, CL John, stated that the Nagaland Forest Management Project under JICA was implemented from April 1, 2017 and an amount of INR 139.60 crore has been released till date.

The minister was informed that a complaint was lodged by an individual from Tuensang district against the DFO Tuensang, regarding alleged “illegal deduction of funds,” and that an inquiry has been initiated by the government.

In his written reply on oil palm cultivation in Nagaland, the minister of Agriculture, G Kaito Aye, stated that an amount of INR 6,407.33 lakh has been released by Government of India under palm cultivation during the period from 2018 to 2024.

He also disclosed that the total area of cultivation of oil pal in the state is 13,400.21 acres, and that a total of 390 metric tonnes of fresh fruit bunches (FFBs) has been produced.

Aye clarified that palm oil is the final derivative product from oil palm trees which is processed from Crude Palm Oil (CPO) in the refineries.
