A training program about the Right to Information Act for appellate and public information authorities in the Nagaland Civil Secretariat was held on April 29 in Kohima.
During the event, the chief secretary of Nagaland, Pankaj Kumar, spoke about his experiences with RTI and how the act would impact the public in the future.
He stressed on the need for proactive disclosure as given in Section 4 of the RTI Act.
‘The RTI makes us closer to the public and public servants should give out information and not answer questions’, he said.
He also impressed upon the participants to learn the proper way of file noting as in the future people would read what they have written and consider whatever they have written made sense.
The topics discussed during the day included an overview of the RTI Act, responsibilities of public information officers, roles of appellate authorities, and the appeals and penalties given in the RTI Act.
An interactive session was conducted after the program.
