DIMAPUR — Indus Towers Ltd., in partnership with Shishu Sarothi (Centre for Rehabilitation and Training for Multiple Disability), a rights-based non-profit organisation based in Assam, has informed that the Indus Towers Scholarship Programme for the session 2024-25 is now opened for applications from students with disabilities across northeast India.

Launched in 2016 under Indus Towers’ CSR initiative “Saksham,” to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the educational and professional mainstream, the Indus Towers Scholarship Programme has been instrumental in helping more than 800 students with disabilities from NE India to overcome financial barriers and advance in their academic journeys by encouraging them to pursue academic, professional, vocational, and skill-building education (including coaching for employment-oriented competitive examinations) at any recognised or affiliated educational institution across the country.

“Indus Towers believes that the success of its business is tied to the strength of the society we operate in. The scholarship programme intents to encourage students to pursue academic, professional, vocational and skill-building education at any recognised or affiliated educational institution across the country. It gives us immense pride to see our past scholars employed across government departments and corporate organisations in the private sector.

“Our commitment is to support persons with disabilities and provide them with an opportunity to advance in their academic journey. Part of our flagship CSR programme “Saksham,” the initiatives are designed to empower individuals and their families. We take immense pride in our eight-year CSR partnership with Shishu Sarothi serving the Northeast of India,” said Rajender Gurung, Circle CEO of Assam and NESA, Indus Towers Limited.

An update from Indus Tower Ltd. stated that the Indus Towers Scholarship Programme 2024-25 is focusing on equipping and empowering youth with disabilities from NE India to achieve economic independence by providing scholarships for relevant, practical, market-oriented and in-demand vocational and skill training that facilitates their access to sustainable livelihoods jobs and self-employment opportunities.

“The support from Indus Towers is crucial in empowering our students to build sustainable livelihoods. Vocational skill training is essential for their economic independence and integration into the mainstream workforce, particularly in the northeast region,” said Ketaki Bardalai, executive director of Shishu Sarothi.

It mentioned that the 2024-25 scholarship programme would provide financial support to 70 students from Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram to pursue certificate and diploma courses in administrative, accounting and office skills, beauty and cosmetology, hospitality and tourism, tailoring and weaving, electrical and mechanical, agriculture and farming, computer and digital skills, music and fine arts, cooking and baking, retail and sales, sports, etc.

Additionally, it added that career counseling sessions and awareness programmes on Rights for Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 would be conducted for scholars to motivate and inspire them in their educational pursuits and journey toward economic empowerment.
