Indigenous games mark day-2 Tokhü Emong celebration in Wokha
WOKHA — The second day of the four-day-long Tokhü Emong celebration in Wokha town was marked by vibrant display of indigenous games and an enchanting music night.
The morning session on Tuesday saw Renbomo Ezung, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Wokha, inaugurating the indigenous games competitions as the special guest.
In his address, the ADC urged the participants to engage in traditional games with the spirit of their ancestors, fostering an exchange of skills and ideas.
Ezung stressed the need for the younger generation to inherit the rich cultural practices of their forefathers and also encouraged the organisers to continue promoting traditional games annually. Expressing concern over the waning popularity of traditional games due to modernisation, he encouraged preserving and promoting traditional games.
He further called upon the community to celebrate the festival in its true spirit by emphasising on unity, peace and reconciliation.
The day’s events included the first Tokhü Emong Naga style wrestling competition, spear throwing, top spinning, tug-of-war, stilt bamboo walking, Naga go-karting and greased bamboo climbing.
In the evening, Aotula T Imchen, Superintendent of Police, Wokha, attended the Tokhü Emong musical night as the special guest.
