Dimapur, Aug. 9 (EMN): The Indian Army and the NSCN/GPRN (Yung Aung Group) have issued contrasting statements to the reported clash that took place between the two sides in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Tuesday.

According to a Defence release, the Jairampur Battalion of HQ IGAR (North) on Tuesday foiled an “infiltration bid” by Insurgents at Pangsau Pass in Changlang district. It stated that a group of insurgents attempted infiltration taking advantage of bad weather and poor visibility at Pangsau Pass on Tuesday.

Following swift and immediate retaliation by Assam Rifles troops, the infiltration bid was foiled. One JCO suffered minor injury on the hand in the operation, it stated.

“Enhanced domination of Indo-Myanmar border is being ensured due to multiple inputs by intelligence agencies of likely infiltration as also sabotage activities in view of upcoming Independence Day,” it stated while adding the Assam Rifles troops were continuing enhanced vigil in the area.

The NSCN/GPRN (Yung Aung Group), on the other hand, stated that in response to the joint boycott of 75th Indian Independence Day by NSCN/GPRN and ULFA-I, a joint tactical team of the Naga army and ULFA-I attacked the Indian Army outpost based at Nampong sub-circle, under Changlang district.

NSCN/GRPN media cell also claimed that during the early morning attack, the joint tactical team inflicted “heavy casualty to the occupational forces” while a cadre of the joint team suffered “minor injury.”

“India’s prolong brutal military occupation and political ploy cannot quell the will of our people for complete freedom and we will continue to defend our political right at all cost,” it added.
