India records 2.57 lakh new Covid-19 cases, 3.57 lakh recoveries

Dimapur, May 22 (EMN): India reported 2,57,299 (2.57 lakh) new Covid-19 cases in the  last 24 hours, taking the country’s tally to 2,62,89,290 (2.62 crore), while active caseload decreased to 29,23,400 (29.23 lakh) after 3,57,630 (3.57 lakh) recoveries were registered during the same period.

Ten States accounted for 78.12% of the new cases with Tamil Nadu reporting the highest daily new cases at 36,184, followed by Karnataka with 32,218, according to date provided by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The country also recorded 4,194 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 2,95,525, while cumulative recoveries increased to 2,30,70,365 (2.30 crore) at national recovery rate of 87.76%.

The Health Ministry went on to update that 19,33,72,819 vaccine doses have been administered through 27,76,936 sessions, as per the provisional report till 7 am on Saturday.
