IMD predicts moderate to heavy rain in northeast India

DIMAPUR — Moderate rain is very likely to occur at most places over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and at many places over Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on September 25, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

A low-pressure area has formed over the west central Bay of Bengal and adjoining northwest bay off the coasts of north Andhra and south Odisha, influenced by cyclonic circulation over the central Bay of Bengal. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height.

According to the IMD, fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall is very likely over northeast India, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next seven days.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over Assam and Meghalaya on September 25 and 26 and Arunachal Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on September 26.

On September 26, moderate rain is very likely to occur at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram and at many places over Tripura.

On September 27, moderate rain is very likely to occur at most places over Meghalaya and Mizoram and at many places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Tripura.

On September 28, moderate rain is very likely to occur at many places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

The IMD has also issued a warning that on September 25, thunderstorms and lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Also, heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram.
