DIMAPUR — The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-National Research Centre (NRC) on Mithun (M) , Medziphema, organised a mithun mela-cum-technology injection programme at Loth village in Arunachal Pradesh on February 14.
An update mentioned that it was held in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, and Dairy Development, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, and other line departments. It aimed to disseminate crucial advancements and foster sustainable practices in mithun farming.
The event showcased technologies and research findings from ICAR-NRC (M) tailored to optimise mithun rearing and management practices.
Taba Tedir, Minister of Education, Cultural Affairs, and Indigenous Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, attended the programme as the chief guest and, in his address, lauded the efforts of ICAR-NRC on mithun.
Tedir emphasised the government’s support for improving mithun farming practices and highlighted the significance of technology infusion and knowledge dissemination.
Dr. Girish Patil S, Director of ICAR-NRC on mithun, advocated for the commercialization of mithun farming in his address, highlighting its FSSAI approval and premium market potential.
He recommended utilising the M-Anitra trading app for efficient online mithun trading and emphasised the importance of organic certification. He also encouraged farmers to explore value-added meat and milk products for increased revenue.
Later, a meeting of farmers, scientists, and veterinary officers was held to promote collaborative discussions and knowledge exchange among the stakeholders.
The event was attended by various government officials and 467 mithun farmers, 56 of whom were ear-tagged and vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease. Inputs and best mithun awards were also given out to encourage mithun farming.
