‘I Rise’ wins Best Documentary at 9th Mumbai Short International Film

Imphal, Dec. 7 (EMN): A 52- minute documentary film, ‘I Rise’ based on the life of ace boxer Laishram Sarita Devi, won the Best Documentary in the documentary category during the 9th Mumbai Short International Film Festival 2020. The results of the film festival was announced in Mumbai on December 6.
The film which highlights the ups and downs of boxer Sarita Devi, a seven-time Asian Championship medallist, was directed and cinematographed by national award winning film maker Borun Thokchom.
The film was produced by Films Division Mumbai.
The film was selected as the best one among 19 documentary films consisting of four films each from India and Spain, three from the United States, two each from Germany and France, one each from Croatia, Brazil, Hungary and Poland.
A total of 392 films from more than 55 countries took part in the festival this year to vie for the awards in different categories.
On receiving the award, President Meghachandra Kongbam of Film Society of Manipur said, “we are quite happy to learn that another film–I Rise–produced by a national award winning Manipuri director won the best documentary in an international film festival competing 18 films made from different countries.” He also appreciated the Films Division wholeheartedly for encouraging the talented filmmakers.
In October, I Rise bagged the Best Film on Women Outstanding Achievement Award in the Tagore International Film Festival 2020 in West Bengal. Earlier Borun’s documentary film ‘The Silent Poet’ won National awards in 2011.
The Mumbai Short International Film Festival, a progressive cinema movement started in 2012 aims to contribute towards the development of upcoming filmmakers and to create short films culture in India.
