DIMAPUR — Acting on specific information about the presence of arms and ammunition in general area of Chanung Top in Imphal East district of Manipur, the Indian Army and Manipur Police launched a joint operation on July 17 and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
An update from PRO and Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, informed that patrol dogs and explosive detection dogs were deployed during the 72-hour-long operation.
The arms and ammunition recovered during the operation include 13 long range mortars, four Burmese iron rod improvised explosive device (IED), one modified grenade launcher, one G3 rifle, six 303 rifles, one .22 pistol, a grenade, 25 locally made IED, 115 rounds ammunition of various weapons, three magazines of various weapons, two radio sets and other war like stores. The recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police for further disposal and investigation, it added.
