All business establishments across Dimapur and Chumukedima town will pull down their shutters from 12 noon till 6 pm on Wednesday in protest against the assault on an employee of a crockery store in Dimapur by GPRN/NSCN inside Khehoi camp on July 19 last. This decision to implement voluntary closure of shops as a protest against the incident was taken during a meeting among members of Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Business Association of Nagas, East Dimapur Business Association and Chumukedima Chamber of Commerce and Trade Association on Tuesday at DCCI office.
A press release from the “joint media cell” of the trade organizations on Tuesday informed that the protest is confined only to voluntary closure of shops. “We regret the inconvenience which (the closure of shops) may cause to the public and at the same time appeal the public to cooperate with the business community.”
The trade bodies also resolved to ask the state government to arrest the perpetrators at the earliest. It decided to “take its own course of action until the culprit is arrested” by the state government.
It also stated that the “bond agreement” signed between the victim and the GPRN/NSCN was totally unwarranted “as the alleged connivance of the victim with the Indian army was unfounded and appeared as a mere excuse to justify his illegal detention and inhuman torture.”
It demanded the GPRN/NSCN to immediately revoke and nullify the agreement and terminate the culprit from active national service. “Simultaneously, the House decided to demand revocation and nullification of bond agreement signed with East Dimapur Business Association, president, Solomon L Awomi on August 2, 2014.”
It stated that the business community would resort to closure of shops in the future until both the “bond agreements” are revoked by the GPRN/NSCN.
