Hornbill Festival 2022: Various tribes perform cultural dance, songs

The ongoing 23rd edition of the Hornbill Festival 2022 entered day-5 on Monday with scores of tourists and visitors witnessing the display of dances and songs at the main arena in Kisama.

President of All India Football Association (AIFF), Kalyan Chaubey attended the morning session as chief guest, while Jonathan Kennedy, Director of Arts for British Council India, and Kipa Ajay, Treasurer of AIFF were the honoured guests; Advisor of Youth Resources and Sports, Zale Neikha and Advisor of DUDA Bongkhao Konyak were the hosts.

The Lotsu cultural troupe representing Lotha tribe enacted Tokhu Emong, the premier festival of the tribe, and performed the Tokhu dance; the Pochury cultural troupe performed a traditional game; followed by the Sumi troupe from Dimapur demonstrating the spear-kicking to select an energetic and agile man to go to war.

The Rengma troupe presented an indigenous game, the Kachari cultural troupe performed a folk dance, Zeliang troupe performed Herui, yodelling, and the Garo community performed Dim dim chong folk song.

Later in the evening session, Chakhesang cultural troupe performed a folk dance Thüpuhüsazo; Angami troupe from Kezoma village performed Luda and Thulo (traditional games); followed by Tütongtüchi Yar (Lover’s dance) from Ao cultural troupe; and Kuki cultural troupe with Khulkon Lam folk dance.

The Sumi cultural troupe performed a rice planting song, which was followed by the Pochury (Kohima) troupe performing Awo (indigenous game) and Zeliang (Kohima) with Ingaumerai Lim (Hornbill dance).

Rear Admiral Manish Chadha, Vishisht Seva Medal, Assistant Chief of Personnel (Administration and Civilian) at Navel HQ, was the chief guest for the afternoon session and Advisor of Tourism and Art and Culture, H Khehovi Yeputhomi was the host.

The total number visitors over the past five days have reached 66,133 with 9158 recorded on Monday, including 76 international and 3972 domestic tourists.
