Hockey Championship: Mizoram, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Punjab win

Imphal, May 12 (EMN): Mizoram, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Punjab won their respective matches on the  second day of the ongoing 12th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship 2022 at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium in Imphal on Thursday.

On May 12, the second day of the championship, Tamil Nadu beat Arunachal Pradesh 1-0 in their morning match at 8 am.

Punjab walked over in their match after Himachal Pradesh failed to turn up while Bihar lost to Mizoram 0-7. Karnataka thrashed Telangana 15-0 in their evening match.

Assam will take on Maharashtra in their first match on May 13.

In their opening match, Manipur trounced Kerala (9-0)last evening. The match was played braving the seasonal downpour under the flood light.

In the ongoing championship, the participating teams are divided into eight pools. Pool A has teams from Haryana, Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir while in Pool B are Jharkhand, Manipur, Kerala and in Pool C are Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Gujarat. 

Teams from 24 states and union territories including five teams from northeast (Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh) are participating in the championship. Matches will be played in daylight as well as under flood light.

The quarter-finals will be played on May 19, and the semi-finals will be held on May 21. The medal matches for the Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship 2022 are scheduled for May 22.
