High Court judgment expected to open doors for unemployed youths — NTUCT
Dimapur, Oct. 20 (EMN): Naga Tribal Union Chumoukedima Town (NTUCT) on Thursday said the recent outcome of the 11 writ petitions in Gauhati High Court, Kohima bench is expected to open many doors to those seeking public employment, amid rapid rise of unemployment among the educated youths of Nagaland and backdoor appointments in departments and governmental agencies.
It may be mentioned that the Gauhati High Court, Kohima bench, had granted an interim order to a group of 26 educated unemployed youths who had filed 11 writ petitions to quash a total of 940 backdoor appointments in the Police department from January 2018 to October 2020.
The petitioners had approached the High Court to not only demand cancellation of all the appointments but to advertise the posts and give opportunity to the petitioners, respondents and all eligible candidates.
The union had first raised an objection against the recruitment in February 2020, issuing an ultimatum to not allow the appointed constables to undergo screening and training at NAPTC Chumoukedima.
It said that all the tribal hohos including Phom People’s Council and Phom Students’ Conference, Sangtam Students’ Conference, Zhadima Students’ Union NAYO etc., also opposed screening and training of the backdoor appointees in the battalions under their respective headquarters.
After hearing the parties, an interim relief was granted to the petitioners, directing the Police department authorities to not allow ‘further appointment to the post of constable under the Nagaland Police establishment without making open advertisement’.
“NTUCT is committed to fight the legal battle till final justice is delivered. We thank the Naga public and particularly our well wishers who have been helping us in cash or in kinds for this noble cause,” it added.
