Heavy rain expected in Nagaland; NSDMA issues warning
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall and potential flooding in the state with the onset of monsoon season.
“Thunderstorm and lightning with gusty wind speed of 30 to 40 kmph is very likely to occur at in the districts of Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Zunheboto, Kiphire, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Mon and Longleng from April 26 to the 29th,” it said in a press release on Wednesday.
It is therefore important to take necessary precautionary measures during this time and exercise caution from lightning strikes and gale winds which may cause disruption in communication and connectivity, said the NSDMA.
It added that due to the likelihood of excessive precipitation in the hill sector, Nagaland’s lowland and foothill regions, including Dimapur, Nuiland, Chumukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit, and Tuli, are likely to be impacted by inundated water logging and flash floods.
The expected minimum and maximum temperature during this period will vary between 15˚C and 39˚C, it added.
In this regard, the NSDMA, Home Department urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during this period. It also requested all the district disaster management authorities and other line departments to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon period.
