WOKHA — Business activities and normal life was disrupted in Wokha town on Monday, as heavy rainfall triggered flash flood and landslides at various locations, including Daily market and police point.

The downpour caused severe waterlogging at police point area, disrupting the movement of people and vehicles, while flooding caused a significant damage to the Wokha Daily Market.

Floods hit Wokha Daily Market, the business hub of Wokha town, almost every year but as not as severe as this time, said Mhono, a shop owner at the market. She added that the floods have damaged their goods.

Meanwhile, Etsutchukha colony and PWD (slaughter house area) colony have been hit by landslides, affecting a house. A mudslide caused by the collapse of a retaining wall also blocked the District Hospital road. On this, the district administration has initiated debris clearance work at the site.

Meanwhile, no casualties were reported.

It may be mentioned that poor drainage system and reckless dumping of waste have exacerbated the situation, causing water to accumulate rapidly in Wokha town.
