Head Hunters Jakhama wins 21st NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy

Head Hunters Jakhama emerged as champion of the 21st NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy after defeating Mhakenyi Kro-u FC 1 -0 in the final match at IG Stadium in Kohima on Saturday evening.

During the thrilling encounter between the teams, skipper Haotinmang launched a long ranger in the 27th minute for Head Hunters, which is a team of the 164 Territorial Army, stationed at Jakhama, to win the coveted championship title.

While Head Hunters put in every effort to defend the only goal, Mhakenyi Kro-u failed to equalise the score-line, as they missed a free kick.

Winning the title, Head Hunters received a cash award of INR 2,00,000, while Mhakenyi Kro-u bagged INR 1,20,000 as the runner-up.

In the individual category, Haotinmang of Head Hunters received a brand new scooty as the player of the tournament. Yhunshalo Kemp of Mhakenyi Kro-u bagged the golden boot award as the highest scorer with 15 goals.

Aseto Kruse of Mhakenyi Kro-u was declared the best midfielder, while Moirangthem of Fifa FC was adjudged the best defender, and Ruokuovolie Phewhuo of Berenike FC Meriema was proclaimed the best goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, PWD minister Tongpang Ozukum attended the closing function while Medo Yhokha, Advisor of Technical Education and Election distributed prizes to the winners.

Altogether, 52 teams competed in the month-long tournament, organised by Angami Students’ Union on the theme “goal for peace” in memory of Kekuojalie Sachü and Vikhozo Yhoshü, the two martyrs.
