Handcart puller killed in Dimapur accident

DIMAPUR — A 55-year-old man was killed in a traffic accident on Monday morning at around 10:30 am near the railway siding in Dimapur. The victim was pulling a handcart when a truck hit him and pulled him under its rear wheels.

Traffic police sources informed that both the victim and the truck driver were heading towards the railway siding. The victim was reportedly walking alongside the truck and had gestured for the driver to proceed. It is suspected that as the truck moved forward, it made contact with the rear of the handcart, dragging the man under the wheels.

While the incident appears to be accidental, police investigations are ongoing. The truck driver is currently in police custody. However, no formal complaint has been filed at this time.

The victim’s body has been identified and will be released to his family following the completion of necessary procedures, sources said.
