Guilt in Our Stars

This naked star is falling apart and waits to be laid to rest. Just like the unattended star, there are many things in our environment that need our attention and action: from the smallest candy cover to piles of garbage, and our trademark tobacco and betel spit. We treat our environment like it’s a garbage can, the filth around substantiates it. Everybody bothers to ignore it. One of the biggest challenges we face is the ‘art’ of spitting. We have painted the city red with the gutka and betel spit. Even the hospitals which are expected and supposed to be the cleanest haven, especially today, are not spared. During my recent visit to one of the hospitals, I was appalled to witness some of the staff spitting continuously at the entrance in front of the doctor. This is not targeting the hospital or the staff, as we are all guilty. Today, many theories are circling around Covid-19. Some call it the end of the world, others say it is the manifestation of the Devil himself and for others, it is a test of faith. No matter which theory you stand by, this pandemic has aroused what should otherwise be basic human nature, the necessity to live a clean and healthy life. Corona or not, let cleanliness be a lifestyle.
